Mount Gay Rum

IThe story of Mount Gay Rum began in the Caribbean island of Barbados, a coral island measuring only 14 miles wide by 21 miles long. Many people believe that rum was being produced on the Mount Gay Rum Estate from as early as 1663. However, the first surviving written evidence of this is a legal deed dated 20th February 1703. This document lists the property and the equipment found on it, equipment essential for the manufacture of rum.

This confirms that rum production was well underway by 1703, making Mount Gay Rum the oldest rum in Barbados, and more importantly, the world.

Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd. produces a range of hand-crafted, superior quality, aged rums. Our objective is to be the leader in the aged rum category internationally. We pride ourselves on our legendary art of blending single distillate (light-bodied rum) and double distillate (complex and robust rum) which is produced in our centuries' old copper pot still. The two types of distillate are matured in the finest quality 200-litre charred oak barrels. During the aging process, the alcohol matures, gaining a unique richness and depth of character that are now synonymous with Mount Gay Rum.

THE RANGE:

ECLIPSE illustrates the art of Barbadian and Caribbean rum. Created in 1910, its luminous, golden amber glow and distinct floral and spicy notes have pleased, ever since, the palates of connoisseurs the world over. Its subtle, balanced blend perfectly harmonizes taste and aroma. Ideal in long drinks or cocktails, it can also be enjoyed on the rocks or neat.

EXTRA OLD, in its category, is the reference of the rum world. It is a masterful blend of the finest, aged spirits, selected attentively amongst the oldest reserves with a resulting maturity of 17 years. The force of its oak aromas is softened by its sweet, fruity notes, reminiscent of pastry and bananas. Easily identified thanks to its traditional label and its malt whisky type bottle, its magnificent luminosity, dark amber colour and extreme clarity are the key qualities of this rum. The result of many years of meticulous development, EXTRA OLD has received several Grand Gold Medals and Trophies from the highly respected International Institute for Quality competition.

Mount Gay Eclipse

40%

APPEARANCE: Its bright, luminous, golden-amber appearance is the first enticing indication of the fine quality of Eclipse.

AROMA: Eclipse has the most complex aroma of all in the product range. Although well harmonised, certain tonalities can still be discerned, namely;* floral, spicy (peppermint-type)* fruity (apricot, banana, prune, mango)* a hint of vanilla and a subtle, smoked oak character (derived from the charred barrels)

TASTE: Its flavour is in superb harmony with its aroma. Here, the complex set of aroma characteristics is magically transformed into subtle, well-balanced but exciting distinguishable flavour undertones. Revealing only a hint of the character of double distillate, and so not being of intense character, Eclipse is a light-bodied rum (as are all in the Mount Gay Rum range) which can be enjoyed when served in any fashion - mixed, on ice or neat.
